Indigenous are the first people to live on a Land, Indigenous are forming tribes.

The name of the three groups of indigenous people is First Nation, Inuits , Métis

First Nation : largest  all over Canada most varied

Inuits : Of the arctic

Métis : descendants of  first nations descendants of  Europeans settlers found all over the country  

Indigenous people have lived in Canada during 12000 years

1,4 number of people we identifias indigenous today

The indigenous have created Kayak, corn, snow rackets, chewing gum.

The name of the country comes from the word Kanata meaning Village  or settlement

The Residential schools was a Canadian government institution established by the government in 1880 and closed in 1996

Residential schools were created in Canada, with the goal of eradicating the culture of indigenous children, children were killed.

the objective of the Canadian government is to teach the Native a new culture like the European culture like a new language, new culture and a new religions

To commemorate the Indigenous, the orange shirt day was created to pay tribute to the natives who were martyred in Canada. Orange shirt day was first established as a celebration in 2013 and is celebrated in Canada on September 30th.

This day was inspired by phyllis’ story

Truth ans reconciliation day is the same day as Orange Shirt day

The day was elevated to statutory holiday status by the Parliament of Canada in 2021, this day marks the reconciliation between the natives and Europeans colonizers
