Executive Summary

Ontario Christian Gleaners have a good strategy that was successfully implemented. They perform operations efficiently and constantly achieve their on-going mission to feed starving children. With ample volunteer support the organization is considering an expansion, but is limited financially. Further, the CRA is tightening the financial reporting requirements for charitable organizations.

In this situation, OCG should hire a financial advisor to reduce the threat posed from the CRA. They need to utilize their extra volunteers by engaging them in management and communication strategies. OCG must also seek new revenue streams by targeting corporations for sponsorship, and communities through social media channels. If the company is successful with their new strategy, they should carry out the expansion.

This suggestion resolves the conflicts of the situation for the following reasons. A financial expert will take care of the documentation needed to maintain the charitable organization status, and provide Shelly Stone with more time to handle other important affairs. Engaging volunteers in more impactful jobs and using them to target new potential donators addresses OCG’s funding issue. The new organizational structure is more feasible in a larger enterprise, and is a necessary change pending an expansion. At the current state, OCG is operating efficiently and effectively. Their need for strategic analysis stemmed from growth, so managing the relationships they currently have with their primary stakeholders and engaging them in these new strategies is the most ideal approach to growing the organization.

Gammon Lake’s strategy is focused on increasing shareholder value by an increase in its production volume through its recent acquisitions.

Strategic Issue and Problem

Gammon Lake is faced with a major problem regarding their profitability, as they have been submitting a net-loss in recent years. As the company is transitioning from their exploration to production phase, it is imperative that the company evaluates their long term goals and vulnerabilities. The inability to meet consumer demand while gold and silver prices are on the rise constitutes a major issue for Gammon Lake. The acquisition of new mineral reserves creates the need to assess their future performance, and how it will ultimately affect the cash flow from their operations.

Performance Assessment

OCG has been achieving success with their current strategy. They process 5,000 pounds of produce into 30,000 servings of soup every day, 5 days per week, year-round. The success is significantly attributed to OCG’s ability to attract and retain volunteers, manage their inbound logistics of surplus, and unite with relief organizations. Empowered by Shelly Stone’s effort to engage these stakeholders, OCG achieved a competitive advantage through their operating
