Idea of Progress

I will present the notion “Idea of Progress”. The idea of progress basically consists in believing that the world can become better in terms of art, science, technology, liberty and quality of life. Progress implies changes, some evolution from an old order with old traditions to a new order which is not necessarily embraced by all, as it may shake up deep-rooted, highly respected conventions and beliefs. We will see how the gay right could be considered like a progress.

For that I will talk about how the condition of life is for the homosexuals and then how can we improve their life.

In many countries, the homosexual marriage is illegal or banned. As a member of a sexual minority, they received some forms of discrimination, prejudice and hatred. They have also a range of issues, including marriage, hospital visitation, adoption, housing, employment and school bullying. Indeed discrimination can directly cause job instability and high turnover, resulting in greater unemployment and poverty rates for gays, as well as the wage gap between gay and straight workers. Being gay is considered as a more serious crime than being a thief. They are almost not considered like a human and don’t have human rights they should have.

Even if many countries are against, there are some countries that allow the homosexual marriage like in U.S or France. There exist some organization that supports gays and lesbians. Amongst them the most well-known is Amnesty International that fights against violations of all human rights: torture, death penalty, people in danger and others… Gays and lesbians are humans before being homosexuals. Therefore they must have human rights and not unfairly discriminated for their sexual orientation. That’s why organization like Amnesty International exists. Their goal is to make people be aware of what happens in other countries and sensitize people’s opinions. If we spread the support to gays and lesbians and that we become a majority group then there will have less and less people who will discriminate them against.

To conclude in my opinion, gays and lesbians are humans and they should have human rights. It’s unfair to discriminate the homosexuals because their sexual orientation is different. If we spread our own opinion to support gays and lesbians, many countries could change on their doing, thinking for a better law and politics. Not only for the discrimination of homosexuals but also on other matters like racism or child labor. That will be a great improvement and progress to their government and the whole world.
