IDEA OF PROGRESS :

INDIA ON THE MOVE

Introduction:

The idea of progress can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change – a technical, scientific or social advance which contributes to making the world a better place. The idea of progress imply the globalization, modernity and news technologies.

I'm going to talk about India, a country wich is in progress. In the first part, I will present a picture called Today's India, then il will compare two other pictures wich presents the differents aspects of India, to finish with an oral comprehension named two stories.

I)

This document is a picture which is untitled India on the move. On this picture we can see many people who are gathered together on the bank of a beach. The skyline of a modern city stretches out of the mainland. I think that this city is Mumbai. We can say that people seems happy and rich, because of there clothes and they are smiling. Men are wearing cusual clothes like jeans, shirts, socks.. But women are wearing traditional clothes. On the left, there is a tipical indian family. Mother, father and two babies. In India they musn't have more than 2 children. This picture shows that india stay a traditional country with the two family policy and the clothes of the women, but there are a part of mordenity with the skyscrapers and men's clothes.

II)

The 2nd document is composed of two differents pictures wich represents the two parts of India. The firts shows the poor and traditional India. There is an over-crowded bus, maybe the men are going to work and they are worker. It seems to be the only means of transport as many indians can't buy a car or a motocicle. In front of the bus, there are two cows, who are tradicionals animals in India.

Whereas, the other picture shows a modern hearquarter in India. In the background we can see a new modern building, and palmtrees. People seems relax and rich. We can see children who are going to school with there big bags, a woman on a bike and a man weel-dressed. This picture represents the hight tech and shows that India is also a buisness country.

III)

The last document is an oral comprehension about two indians boys. Wich is untlitled two stories. It's composed of two parts. The firts is about a boy who is 2O years old and he is the boss of a global software company operating in 11 countries, including the USA. He became the yougest CEO when he was just 14yo. He's very rich and seems really good and happy. Whereas, the 2nd part, talk about an other young man, who is 24 yo. He lives in the slums of Delhi. When he make 2thousand rupees a mouth ( about 40dollars) he is happy and lucky. We learn that, in India there are 300milion other people who lives on less than 1 dollar a day.

This recording shows that India is in progress, but it still a poor country.

To conclude, we have seen that India is composed of two parts. The rich and morden one, and the poor and traditionnal. All this documents shows the same thing : India is in progress, that's why it's inclueded in the idea of progress, but it still a country with constrats
