There are innumerable variations of the Arthurian legend? The basic story has remained the same. Arthur was the illegitimate son of Uther Pendragon, king of Britain, and Igraine the greatest beauty in all Britain, THE MAIN QUESTION IS: The Arthurian legend is a LEGEND or a REALITY?

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table are figures of legend. It was thought that the Arthurian legend was the work of some inventive romancers of the Middle Ages. This story of Arthur developed out of Celtic mythological stories. The people are not sure how and where this legend born if the story was based on a historical person. This is a unique tale of early European literature. The Arthurian legend is most fully a myth. It was a political weapon. The Celts needed a hero and Geffrey provided him. In this story they talked about magic, magic potion… In real that don’t exist.

For some population this legend is not a really a myth, it maybe even a reality. For the British people, Arthur represents Celtic spirit for bards and people of Cornwall, therefore the Celtic spirit is not dead. Arthur is like an immortal. He is compared to God. They all expressing this fact when they all cry “…Arthur”. This shows us that Arthur is like a symbol of national roots and cultural identity. For some people this is a myth but somewhere some people think that Arthur was a real king, a real person. At least not in spirit anyway, and the sword represents the spirit of Arthur who defended Britain as we diminished westward and the onslaught of Anglo-Saxons.
