Timeline

Benetton is an Italian company founded in 1965 in the province of Treviso by Luciano Gilberto, Giuliana and Carlo Benetton, who work in the field of fashion and clothing. The company produces over 150 million garments per year, distributed through a network of over 6000 outlets in more than 120 countries, showing a total turnover of over 2 billion.

1965: It was the creation of Benetton Group

1969: The first Benetton store outside Italy opened in Paris

1972: It was the creation of the brand: “Jeans West”

1974: Thebrend Sisley enters the Group brand Portofolio

1978: The group exports 60% of its production

1980: It was the opening of the first New York store, in Madison avenue

1982: It was the opening of the first store in Tokyo. The collaboration with Oliviero Toscani began

1983: The Groups enters the Formula One as sponsor of the Tyrrel Team. In 1986, following the acquisition of Toleman, Benetton Formula Limited racing team is created. It wins two world drivers and one constructor’s championship. In 2000 Renault acquires the Benetton team.

1985: Benetton advertising wins the “Grand prix de la Publicité” in France. It is the first in a series of acknowledgements that, together with the critiques and censorship, fosters, debate in many countries around the world.

1986: The group is listed on Milan, Franckfurt (1988), New York (1989) Stock Exchanges.

1987: It was the creation of Benetton Studi e Ricerche and institution of the International Prize Carlo Scarpa.

1989: It was the entry into East Europe and former Soviet Union markets

1991: It was the creation of the Colors Magazine , on sale in 40 countries, and published in 4 languages.

1994: Fabrica, Benetton Group communication research center is created.

2003: The family took a step back in order to give more responsibility to managers.

2005: Benetton is present in 120 countries with 5000 stores. Alessandro Benetton is appointed Deputy Chairman of the group.

2006: the group celebrated the fortieth anniversary of his first show at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The event marks the commitment of Benetton France. The founder emphasized "I have two loves, my country and Paris".

2010: In 2010, Benetton launched “It's My Time”, the first global online casting. On the site www.benetton.com/casting 3000000 pages have been viewed a few days after the launch of the campaign.

2011: End of 2011, Benetton is trying to raise its turnover but hits the sensitivity of millions of people by launching its campaign UnHate. Observers doubt that it produces the desired effect and consider it a measure clumsy.

2012: In 2012, Luciano Benetton father transmits the steering group held for 47 years to his son Alessandro, formerly vice president for 6 years.
