Practical Assignment 2
Since eras, living alone is consider as an achievement in most of the countries of the planet. Whether is regarded as an evidence of economic success or the passage to adulthood, living alone will clearly have an impact on your self esteem.
Back to the prehistoric, humans were living in large groups to ensure their safety against animals larger and tougher than themselves, but I like to think that coincidentally, it was also to encourage their courage, success and increase their good spirit thus let the humanity become what it is today. As an example, remember when you were a child, trying to sleep and still a little bit scared to sleep without a light and all those strange sounds around you. Now, still as a child, be in the same house with the same sounds but with a friend, sleeping in your room or with your elder sister or your parents. Incredibly, things are differents, Isn’t? Naturally, since childhood, be a part of a group is a way to protect ourselves and feeling more powerful.
In spite of the fact than living in a group restricts your own independance, that will strangely bring you an other kind of independence who will push you to excel and beyond the expectations that you had for yourself. Ironically, for few people, that will give them the strange idea that despite they are doing something wrong, because they are doing it as member of a group, that legitimate what they do and give them the moral permission to do bad things. For example, the force and the pressure coming from the group is one of the reason given by former Hitler’s soldiers to explain their participation in one of the worst war crime. It’s not really their fault because everyone else in their group was doing the same thing.
In sum, the power of a group can have two opposites effects, but at the end, each of us can take this strong and create our own strong, to do better things.
