We chose to present the city of Vancouver. Vancouver is a city situated in the continental Lowlands of the province of British Columbia. Before 2020, Vancouver longs to be the greenest city of the world.

This is a challenge that has launched the mayor Gregor Robertson. He launched his team of co-workers the greenest city plan for achieve this ambitious goal but still possible. A plan that tackled the problem of pollution and greenhousse gas emission. The plan has already reached 80% of these objectives.

The first goal is to reintroduce nature in the city. For example by building parks, bike paths ... Then to develop the green economy companies by committing to make activities more environmentally friendly. Supporting business divisions related to technological innovations recycling and social innovation. And then the last action and not the least important is to reduce the impact of CO2 and also waste. How could cities become a solution for the environment instead of a problem? So, we will see at first time how the city of Vancouver reduces pollution. And on the second time we will see how it is this a green city.

One goal of Vancouver is to make the least polluted city. We will see how the city has made to succeed this goal. So first, they decided to reduce the use of cars in city and to privilege the use of public transport, cycling or walking. They built 275km of cycle paths to encourage bicycle use. They also install a third metro line and electric cars are fairly widespread. Finally the number of kilometres travelled per person by car decreased by 21% since 2007. Then, Vancouver aims to reduce by 20% the energy consumption of buildings since 2007. From 2020 the city wants that all new buildings would be carbon neutral, it means no emissions of greenhouse gases. To finish, the city plans to completely eliminate the use of fossil energy and to only use renewable energy. For the moment, the city has reduced its emissions of greenhouse gases by 7% since 2007. The goal is to reduce by 33% for 2020

The mayor of Vancouver advocated to develop a urban farm and community garden in the street in order to that citizens without garden can growing their own vegetables and eating locals products . Now, lot of restaurants in Vancouver serves at their clients their own products . Then, some people accept to let their own garden at unknown people to that they can growing their vegetable and fruits. Thanks to that, vancouverites consume 36 pourcent more of local product. Since 2008, the landfill wastes or cremated wastes have been reduced by 18 pourcent . The mayor of Vancouver hope that they will reduce by 50 pourcent in 2020. For that, citizens have to recycle and compost their wastes. For exemple, they have a pumping station which allows them to heating building while recycling waste water. Vancouver already has 200 park where citizens planted 37000 trees since 2010. The purpose is to plant 150 000 trees before 2020. The city wish that in 2020 , all residents live less than 5 minutes walk from a park or a green area.

To conclude, we can say that Vancouver is trying to preserve the environment and nature. This city is in constant progress to achieve the fixed objectives. Their actions are mainly concentrated on buildings and transport. So they contribute to reduce pollution but not only do they allow to the city to re-introduce more green spaces, reduce
