Essay about: Is our society widely influenced by advertising?
Advertising is the act of exerting a psychological effect on the public for commercial purposes, especially to make a product known and to encourage its purchase. Advertising is a highly developed and important social method in the 21st century. Consumers are confronted all day long with numerous advertisements in different media as well as in the open air. With this constant abundance of advertising, one can very well assume that it will affect the individual in his or her society.
It is true that advertising promotes brands and offers consumers the opportunity to belong to a certain social group. For example, the influence of clothing brands such as Louis Vuitton or Zara has a strong impact on teenagers. In addition, reality TV characters will also advertise themselves. Teenagers feed off these celebrities via social networks and see them as a way to identify and belong to a certain social group.
However, many advertisements are only meant to entertain and not to make the consumer buy. Sometimes, some ads are totally devoid of information, with no relationship between the product and the brand, which can seem very strange. Like for example the Lidl ad where we see a man shopping but the impact that this ad should have had is to encourage people to go and buy from them because it is one of the cheapest wholesalers
To conclude Advertising will always influence the majority of consumers because it has too much space on the market. Moreover, this one will only develop in the years to come to incite consumers to consume more.
