Nowadays, the climate crisis is rising. We chose an article dating from the 15th of October 2019, that seemed important to us, as it reaches everyone and concerns the future.
A climate crisis is a change in the world weather, the temperatures are getting warmer, mostly because of human activities.
Food insecurity is the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.
According to the « Observatoire des inégalités », eight hundred million people are underfed, which represents one person out of ten.
Causes/Consequences
Firstly, we will see what are the causes of global warming and what are the consequences, focusing on the level of hunger.
According to the World Resources Institute of the UN, the main causes are road transportation, deforestation, factories, household consommation and farming.
As we can see, this diagram shows the main causes of air pollution, mainly industries. (montrer diagramme 1).
Due to extreme weather events, water scarcity and high temperatures, it becomes difficult to grow food. Yields of maize and wheat are already declining, biodiversity is reducing and species are disappearing. It impacts society and environment, creating a vicious circle that is hard to break.
Since the 90s, the number of weather disaster has doubled according to the new report of the UN’s food and agriculture organisation.
We will show you the Global hunger index of 2019, it shows Undernourishment, child wasting, child stunting and child mortality. Lack of food causes illness, malformation and poor living conditions.

Even if global hunger is decreasing, it is still not enough to meet the sustainable development goals which is to end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition. (montrer le goal sur le diapo)
As we can see on this map (montrer la carte), Africa is the continent that suffers the most from hunger because of the lack of resources. The situation is alarming.
Why? It is and under-developed country, there is no quality health infrastructure, and it suffers from global warming with drought and high temperatures. Poverty is both a cause and consequence of poor health, they don’t have enough resources considering the demographic growth.
Solutions:
As we can clearly see, a profound shift towards sustainability with changes in values and behaviours is needed. There has to be a full implementation to secure a liveable world for our children and grandchildren, this requires a different state of mind regarding our planet.
Each country should commit to decrease pollution significantly in order to improve health and life expectancy, help agriculture and slow down the degradation of biodiversity. Governments should take more vigorous measures but
If each citizen is careful enough about their way of life, it will have a huge impact, small actions are as important as big actions. For example, we have to reduce our meat consommation, take the plane less often, be careful about food wasting and the overconsommation of gas, water and electricity.
