Ladies and gentlemen

Man or woman: each and every one of you represents the whole United States, equally composed of women and men, who are all and all, An equality that you know as well as I do is still in many ways a declaration, an intention. To be born a girl tomorrow in the United States must no longer inevitably equate to lesser opportunities in life, nor to hinder the freedom to choose a destiny, and to realize it according to its merit, its abilities, its desires and its work, and neither, according to his gender and the prejudices attached to it. In 2018, the wage gap between men and women is about 22.6% in the United States. I sometimes hear the argument most often put forward: does not making the choice of equal access of the sexes to the responsibilities in the social, political or economic life deny the merit and the competences? What a mistake and hypocrisy.

This clear ambition of justice, which I hope and believe we share, as a priority and cross-cutting requirement of public action, requires first and foremost the implementation and strict enforcement of existing laws: this is the mission to which our President Donald Trump has been assigned every day with the Government for 20 months to make this equality possible. Equality between women and men has progressed more in 70 years, no doubt, than in several millennia, but the biggest mistake would be to believe that we have accomplished the essential things. No. We’ve done half. We’ve done the equality in law. We have to do the equality in action. This is one of the great challenges of the 21st century for societies around the world. The United States is no exception. This challenge is still before us. Recent events have reminded us of this. There would be occupations for which women are less skilled, not predestined, including some artistic professions. This is a speech we still hear in the United States in 2017.

A second attitude is to consider that it will probably take time, still but that the talents will speak, and that the situation will balance. This is called passivity.
Let us protect our women and give them a better future.
Thank you for your attention
