I'm going to talk about the concept: places and forms of power. Power is the ability to influence people's behavior. Power in politics is divided into three categories: executive, judicial and legislative. In order to create social cohesion, the members of a society accept rules, laws. This helps create social cohesion but can also lead to conflict and tension. In order to illustrate this notion, I’m going to talk about guns in USA. Approximately 1.4 million people were killed by firearms in the United States between 1968 and 2011. And answer this question: are weapons a problem or a solution? We will see first the right to carry a gun. And then we will show the perversion of this right. And to finish we will the case for a gun control.

I/The second constitutional amendment guaranteed the right to bear arms. This says that Americans have the right to carry a weapon and create a militia for the security of the United States. It was after the War of Independence. The constitution is linked to the history of the United States: the persecution, the war of independence. This constitution was made to allow freedom and peace.

“Guns don’t kill people, people kill people” this quote from the NRA an association in favor of carrying weapons. For them, weapons make it possible to defend their families. But that is not a problem because the second amendment says so.

II/ I will explain why this right is perverted. Guns are used to kill innocent people and not protect their families. USA is the country most affected by shootings like that of Columbine. This shooting was committed by Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris at the high school, killed 12 students and a teacher before committing suicide. The Columbine shooting opened a debate on the carrying of a weapon. This shooting inspired Michael Moore with the movie Bowling for Columbine, which investigated the violence that creating weapons.

III/ Then I will explain the case of gun control. It is too easy in the USA to have a gun. This is why Barack Obama wanted to control arms if a person has psychiatric problems., but the NRA put pressure on the government and arms control did not pass. Today in the USA you can buy a gun online or in a gun shop without problem.

To conclude, I think that weapons are a problem. All the massacres were caused by weapons: a shooting at a university in Texas which left 14 dead and 31 injured. the number of deaths by firearms since 1968 corresponds to the number of inhabitants of the city of Dallas. I think that the second amendment must be changed and that we must put a gun control because thousands of people die every year in the USA because of this.
